I've been really chuffed to be shortlisted in the Business of the Year category of Making a Difference in Richmondshire Awards (MADIRA), and am attending the awards ceremony atr SFX this Wednesday. (it is open to all)

Once again we are running an award scheme to celebrate the best that Richmondshire has to offer - and we need your help.
The renamed Making a Difference in Richmondshire Awards aim to recognise the dedicated people who make the District a better place in which to live and work.
We want to highlight - and celebrate - the exceptional contribution to life in Richmondshire made by countless residents, young and old.
But to do that, we need you to tell us about any worthy recipents that you might know of. Many may work behind the scenes, out of the limelight - but this is a great chance to say "thank you" publicly, so we are keen to receive as many nominations as possible.
The 2011/12 Making a Difference in Richmondshire Awards are this year being held at St. Francis Xavier School, Darlington Road, Richmond on Wednesday 18 April 2012 at 7.00 pm. This is an open free of charge event, all are welcome to attend. Please come along and show your support.
The closing date for nominations has now passed and a shortlisting panel has met and considered all nominations. Several nominations were received and it was very difficult for the Shortlisting Panel to make the selections in each categories as all would have been worthy winners.
The shortlist in each category is:
Adult Volunteer of the Year – for anyone 25 and over who volunteers their time for other people, causes or organisations in any way, shape or form and has positively contributed to the community

Adult Carer of the Year – for anyone up to the age of 25 who deserves special recognition for the care they provide for a relative, friend or neighbour and whose valuable contribution and dedication helps improve the quality of life for other people

Community Group of the Year – for groups of people who have come together to solve a problem or respond to an opportunity which has benefited their community
•Citizens Advice Bureau
•Carlton Community Pub Management Committee
•The Swaledale Festival
Sustainable Project of the Year – for any project which through an innovative initiative has tackled pressing social challenges that has and will continue to make a positive impact on the local community for years to come

Green Project of the Year – for projects, organisations or individuals whose forward-thinking solutions have made a significant contribution to sustainable development together with the conservation and protection of the natural environment within the District

Business of the Year – for any individuals/businesses who have, through their business endeavours, made a significant contribution to the local economy and/or encourages employee growth and development or provides apprentice placements/training that contributes to the development of the business and/or offers local people a chance to learn a trade with career prospects
