Battle of Britain Commemorative Ale - September 15th 1940

Wikio - Top Blogs - Wine and beer

Earlier in the month we celebrated the heroism of Grace Darling, in saving survivors from the wreck of the Forfarshire. This week we are proud to commemorate the heroism of the 100's if not 1000's who fought in the The 'Battle of Britain'.

The 'Battle of Britain' is the name commonly given to the effort by the Luftwaffe to gain air superiority over the Royal Air Force (RAF), before a planned sea and airborne invasion of Britain during the Second World War. The 15th September commemorates the end of the biggest daylight bombing raids of Britain by the German Luftwaffe, in 1940.

See the following site for more historical information on this significant point in the second world war:

It was on the 7th September 1838, that Grace Darling and her father rescued survivors from the Forfarshire in gale force winds. A rescue which if carried out today would have been perilous. But, over 150 years ago in a wooden coble is a story of incredible heroism
