RICHMOND BEER FESTIVAL FRIDAY 12TH - SUNDAY 14TH OCTOBER

Wikio - Top Blogs - Wine and beer
For those who have never ventured into the Market Hall, or think how can the place that you buy mobile phone covers and farm produce be transformed into an imbibers paradise, I hope the above picture gives you a sense of the atmosphere. You can even take your own food in to eat - Ariston Pizza here I come.

The Richmond Ale Festival will take place in Richmond’s Market Hall from Friday 12 – Sunday 14 October. They will have more than 30 real ales (including Mithril Ales Local Hop Noveau) and ciders on tap, plus some great free entertainment. On the Friday night  Rapscallion, with their unique Celtic sound, starting around 8pm. Saturday evening sees rock/blues classics from the Richmond Jammers, also from around 8pm, while on Sunday we welcome the Leyburn Brass Band for some traditional music from about 1.30pm.

But, to make it all happen, they do need your help.

A dedicated but small team of volunteers puts in a huge amount of work behind the scenes to get the festival ready but we really do need more pairs of hands over the weekend. Even just an hour or two of your time could be really valuable to the festival – and it’s great fun to be a part of. If you don’t feel comfortable serving beer, we have plenty of other things you could do to help. We are looking for:

• Stewards – making sure people have programmes and can drink in safety

• Bar staff – the essential ‘supply line’

• Help setting up – particularly from 4pm – 6pm on both Friday and Saturday

• Help with packing away – if more people do not help this year, this may be the final festival. We need as many pairs of hands as possible from 4pm – 6pm, please do all you can to help.

• Staff for the CAMRA sales stand and tombola

• And people to come and drink the beer, so bring your friends along!

If you can help at any time, please call Vince on 01609 780536, or email camra_nwyorks@yahoo.co.uk They will provide any training you may need.

They'd also love to see you at their monthly Branch Meetings (2nd Wednesday of each month, see “What’s Brewing” or www.nwyorkscamra.co.uk for details.

See you soon!

STARK RAVING CONKERS

Wikio - Top Blogs - Wine and beer

IN THE OLD DAYS, CONKERING WAS ONE OF THE PLEASURES OF BEING A CHILD. THE ENDLESS HOURS SPENT TRYING TO FIND THE BIGGEST (YES SIZE DOES MATTER). NICKING THE VINEGAR IN THE HOUSE TO SOAK THEM OVERNIGHT, AND ALL OTHER MANNER OF STRANGE AND BIZARRE METHODS TO TOUGHEN THEM UP. EXCITEDLY BRINGING THEM INTO SCHOOL, TO SEE IF YOUR'S COULD BEAT THE REIGNING CHAMP.

NOW YOU NEED SOME SORT OF SAFETY SUIT, GOGGLES AND A RISK ASSESSMENT. NOTWITHSTANDING THE THREAT OF BEING SUED.

FAR EASIER, AND SAFER (AS LONG AS YOU ARE AGED OVER 18) TO POP ALONG TO ONE OF THE FOLLOWING FINE ESTABLISHMENTS FOR A PINT OF ALE:

THE GRAND HOTEL, BISHOP AUCKLAND
THE OLD WELL, BARNARD CASTLE
THE SHIP INN, MIDDLESTONE VILLAGE
NOTTINGHAM BEER FESTIVAL
THE CROWN, MANFIELD

DO THE LOCOMOTION - ANNIVERSARY OF STOCKTON - DARLINGTON RAILWAY

Wikio - Top Blogs - Wine and beerNOT, IT'S NOTHING TO DO WITH KYLIE I'M AFRAID, ALTHOUGH I AM SURE IF MADONNA CAN DRINK TTL THEN WHY SHOULDN'T KYLIE DRINK MITHRIL. SHE IS AFTER ALL A SIMILAR SIZE TO A HOBBIT - BUT FAR MORE ATTRACTIVE!.

SEPTEMBER THE 27TH MARKED THE OFFICIAL OPENING OF THE STOCKTON - DARLINGTON  LINE IN 1825. IT TOOK TWO HOURS TO COMPLETE THE FIRST TWELVE MILES OF THE JOURNEY. IN RETROSPECT IT MAY HAVE BEEN QUICKER TO WALK?

I MAY NOT HAIL FROM EITHER OF THESE TWO TOWNS, BUT IT IS AMAZING TO THINK THAT HERE IN THE NORTH A REVOLUTION IN TRANSPORT WAS STARTED. WHICH IS STILL GOING STRONG TODAY.

FOR FURTHER INFORMATION ON THE RAILWAY SEE THE LINK BELOW:

FOR A PINT OF THE FINE CELEBRATORY ALE SEE THE FOLLOWING PUBS:

THE OLD WELL, BARNARD CASTLE
THE HOLLY HILL INN, RICHMOND
THE SHIP, MIDDLESTONE VILLAGE
