TITANIC GOLD
The sinking of the Titanic caused the deaths of 1,502 people in one of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters of modern history.
A terrible event, but also one that has had a lasting legacy in terms of safety in shipping; which includes the number of lifeboats kept on ships, radio contact and the installation of the International Ice Patrol.
Since the Ice Patrol was established in 1913, barring the two world wars there has been no further loss of life due to collision with an iceberg in an Ice Patrol area.
